Como ya les había comentado en post anteriores, el año
pasado tuve la oportunidad de trabajar para una empresa en Estados Unidos.
Entre muchas de las cosas buenas que me dejo esta oportunidad, la más
importante sin duda alguna, fue el poder viajar y conocer ciudades y personas.
Una experiencia que jamás estuvo en mis planes para el 2012.
As I
mentioned in previous posts, last year I had the opportunity to work for a
company in the United States. I experienced a lot of good things, but the most
important undoubtedly was the opportunity to travel and get to know wonderful
people. Something that wasn't in my plans for the 2012.
Es por eso que este es el primer post de unos cuantos que
haré sobre mis viajes por Estados Unidos, y al cual llamaré “My Suitcase’s
Adventure”.
"My
Suitcase's Adventure" is the first post of a few, about my trips around
the United States.
Nuestro primer destino nos lleva a conocer la ciudad de
Pittsburg, Pensilvania la cual no solamente es famosa por sus grandes equipos
deportivos como son Los Pittsburg Steelers en fútbol americano y los Pittsburg
Pirates de la liga de baseball, además es la ciudad que vio nacer al gran
exponente del “Pop Art”, el grandioso Andy Warhol.
Our first
stop takes us to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This city is not only famous for its
sports teams such as The Pittsburgh Steelers and The Pittsburgh Pirates, is
also the city that gave birth to the great exponent of "Pop Art",
Andy Warhol.
En el centro de Pittsburg se encuentra The Warhol, el museo
más grande dedicado a un solo artista en el mundo que abrió sus puertas en
1994. Además de ser el más grande, también es el más joven en la lista de
museos pertenecientes al “Carnegie” que cuenta con 4 instituciones relevantes,
y que lleva ese nombre gracias a su fundador Andrew Carnegie.
The Warhol
is located in downtown Pittsburg, it is the largest museum dedicated to a
single artist in the world, and its doors were opened in 1994. Besides being
the largest, is also the youngest on the list of the 4 museums who belong to
the "Carnegie", named like this after its founder Andrew Carnegie.
The Warhol está compuesto por 7 pisos, y en cada uno de
ellos podemos ver diferentes facetas del artista, así como también exhibiciones
de otros artistas invitados. Cada piso está dedicado a un tema diferente, entre
pinturas, dibujos, colecciones personales del artista, esculturas y un área de
pantallas en la cual puedes ver sus famosos vídeos y películas estelarizadas
entre muchas otras por la exuberante Edie Sedwick. Por último no te puedes ir
sin visitar el café y la tienda de recuerdos, que aunque tiene precios muy
altos, la verdad vale la pena.
The Warhol
is composed by 7 floors, and on each of them we can see different facets of the
artist, as well exhibitions of other artists. Each floor is dedicated to a
different theme, including paintings, drawings, his personal collections,
sculptures and an area in which you can view his videos and movies featuring
famous people, among many others by the gorgeous Edie Sedgwick. Finally you
can't leave without visiting the cafe and the gift shop, which is a little bit
expensive, but really worth it tho.
Así que si están cerca de la ciudad, o quieren planear un
viaje, les recomiendo Pittsburg porque tiene muchas cosas por hacer y conocer.
Y si quieren saber un poquito más sobre Andy Warhol y Edie Sedwick les
recomiendo la película de Factory Girl, que nos muestra la fabulosa y
decandente vida que llevaban estos artistas.
So if you
are close to the city, or want to plan a trip, I highly recommend Pittsburg
because it has many things to do and visit. And if you want to know a little
more about Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgwick I recommend the movie Factory Girl,
which shows their fabulous and decadent life.
P.D. Una disculpa por la fotos un poco mal tomadas, pero
como saben todos los museos cuentan con mucha seguridad y todas las fotos
fueron capturadas a escondidas.
